After she graduated from high school, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She met her sweetheart, James Barnes; and on November 28, 1952 they were married. That marriage lasted for 68 years. They were blessed with four daughters, Joyce (Daryl) Hall, Iola (Dewayne) Dews; and the late Lenora Jones and Eleanor Horton .
She accepted Christ at a very young age and she attended First Pentecostal Church. She worked at Frisch's Commissary for many years as a supervisor. She loved to cook and play basketball while in high school. She would play basketball with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family; she was the best cook and could make the best fried corn and peach cobbler.
Her beautiful smile told you what kind of person she was; openhearted with love for all. She loved wearing her big hats, loved dancing and some good old blues; but her greatest joy of her life was her sweetheart, her husband James.
