Obituary

Hitt, Mary Cheryl, “Cheri”, (nee Staun), passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the early age of 69. Born on Valentine’s Day, Cheri stole the hearts of all who knew her. Cheri leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years, Douglas H. Hitt Jr. Devoted mother of Douglas H. Hitt III and Nicholas R. (Tempal) Hitt. Loving grandmother to Nickson, Noah and Eden Hitt. Doting daughter in-law to Margie Hitt.  She is also survived by her siblings Jack (Mari) Staun, Kathy (John) Heekin, Janet (Larry) Shute, Maureen (Sonny) Heggemeier, Mary Jean (Scott) Macaulay. Dear aunt of Mark Staun, Jeremy (Kim) Staun, Michael (Erin) Heekin, Sarah (Patrick) O’Neill, Emily Heekin, Rebecca Shute, Laura Shute, Kevin Macaulay, Katie (Zachary) Bevins, Keith Macaulay, Kylie Heggemeier and a special cousins Nancy (Kaulig) Schneider and Russ Borchard.

Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, John “Jack” and Mary “Jean” (nee Borchard) Staun; father-in-law, Douglas H. Hitt; and sister-in-law, Carla Hitt.

Early in her career, Cheri worked in the medical field at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont.

She spent most of her time working side by side with her husband as a property owner and manager. Her tenants appreciated that Cheri always took their concerns to heart and treated them like family.

Cheri cherished her time with family; this was the greatest joy in her life.

Cheri left this world in the arms of her faithful husband, with her sons at her side. As a lifelong Catholic who grew up in St. Gertrude Parish, she was anointed with the last rites of the Catholic Church. Our beloved Cheri tragically left this life too soon, and has left a void in so many hearts that loved her, she will be truly missed.

May her beautiful smile and heart give us comfort as we know she has been reunited with those who have gone before us.

A private service will be held for the immediate family. As Cheri was a passionate advocate for rescue animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Cheri Hitt’s name to the SPCA Cincinnati- Sharonville, 11900 Conrey Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45249.
