Obituary

Marcella 'Marcie' Nastold (nee James), a retired Kindergarten teacher and life-long resident of Greater Cincinnati passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the age of 83. Marcie is preceded in death by her sons Daniel, Douglas, and Donald. Marcie is survived by her loving husband, Valentine Nastold Sr. and three sons, Valentine Jr., William, and Mark. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, all of whom will remember her as a strong and beautiful matriarch who cared greatly for others. Brought up during the great depression by her father, William Joseph, and mother, Marcella, Marcie, a self- proclaimed tomboy, loved to play sandlot baseball with family and friends. She went on to attend Our Lady of Mercy High School where she developed her love of learning. When there were not enough Sisters available to instruct, Marcie would be pulled from her class to teach the younger students. It was during this time Marcie came to know her future husband, Valentine 'Val' Nastold. Val likes to joke that they married because Marcie chased him for so long and he was tired of running. Marcie and Val celebrated 60 years of marriage to one another. Together they had six sons, four of whom survived infancy. When her youngest son began high school, Marcie fulfilled a promise she made to herself to continue her education. In 1984, Marcie graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Childhood Education. She went on to became a teacher at South Avondale Elementary School where she taught kindergarten for over 20 years. Val would often accompany her to school to help with the students and keep his wife company. Marcie was a devout Roman Catholic. She and Val were married at St. Boniface Church in Northside 60 years ago and it is at this same church we will celebrate her life. Funeral services will be held on September 9, 2020. Family and friends will gather at 1130 am and the open service will take place at 1230pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Boniface Catholic Church or SPCA Cincinnati.
