Leon Harold Van Derzee, 74 passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021. Loving husband of Patricia Van Derzee, cherished brother of Jack Van Derzee and Tom Van Derzee (Jane), beloved brother-in-law of Kathleen Gibson (Richard), Daniel Mason (Jackie) and William Mason (Kim), adored uncle of Wyndie Morris (Shawn), Lauren Carter(Tom), Nicholas Van Derzee, Michelle Perez (Tony), James Neel, Dustin Mason, Brooke Mason and Hanna Mason, devoted great uncle of Auburn Noche, Domi Noche, Winchester Morris, Spencer Perez and Alexis Perez.
Leon's career was spent at Steelcraft Manufacturing in Blue Ash, Ohio . Retired as their Environmental Engineer in 2005. He attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated in 1970. He was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He co-opted at Carrier Manufacturing in Syracuse, New York.
Member of the Quad Squad, the Middletown Moose, the West Side Eagles in Hamilton and the Metals Club and a ski group with numerous friends.
He was a strong supporter of live Music and the Arts in the Cincinnati region. He enjoyed photography and traveling to 48 of the 50 states and numerous National Parks . Leon and Patty enjoyed skiing the great American west and out east with friends and family. Leon volunteered with the Flying Pig Marathon and ushered for many years at the Cincinnati Opera. Leon also volunteered with the Kentucky special Olympics.
Public visitation will be held on Saturday July 17th at Spring Grove Funeral Homes (4389 Spring Grove Ave Cincinnati, OH 45223) at 10:00 am with memorial service at 11:00 am. Inurnment at Spring Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association (https://www.diabetes.org/ways-to-give)
