John Robert Kemme passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born on December 30, 1940 in Cincinnati to the late John H. and Virginia (nee Meinhart) Kemme.
John grew up in Saint Bernard and graduated from Roger Bacon High School. He was a brilliant scholar, a natural athlete, and a dedicated friend and brother. He served honorably in the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves, and in 1968 married the love of his life, Charlene. He started a successful auto parts business, running several stores throughout the Cincinnati area, and he and Charlene raised five children together. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed playing, watching, and coaching sports, eating chocolate – especially Baby Ruths, drinking a glass or two of whiskey, and participating in jovial political discourse with his siblings. John was the first to protect those in need and the last to leave the dance floor.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Charlene M. (nee Koller) Kemme; his children, John M. (Jenny) Kemme, William C. Kemme, Catherine M. Kemme, Robert S. Kemme, and Thomas A. (Lea) Kemme; 7 grandchildren; siblings, Jeanne M. Kemme, Barbara A. (John) Domoe, Paul T. (the late Fran) Kemme, Stephen A. (Nancy) Kemme, and Thomas G. (Vicki) Kemme; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish on Saturday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s name may be directed to the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 2045 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati OH 45202 or to St. Michael Parish at 11144 Spinner Avenue, Sharonville, Ohio 45241.
