John Paul Neumann, age 69 of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away from a long illness on July 19, 2021. He was born December 31, 1951 to Edward and Ann Neumann (née Bland). John loved telling the story how his parents were hosting a family New Year's Eve party and had to cancel the get-together to welcome him into the world. John grew up with his siblings in the Greater Cincinnati area first in Hyde Park and later in Reading, Ohio. John received an electronics degree from Cincinnati State. That same school year he met the love of his life, Barbara, at a Christian Fellowship Bible study and they were married a year later.
John gave of himself freely. He enjoyed spending time helping his family, neighbors, and friends and was active in the lives of his children and their friends. He liked learning from others including oil painting and model railroading, exchanging ideas about cooking (especially grilling), lawn care, fixing cars, and home maintenance. Despite health issues, John was known for his positive attitude, dry sense of humor, his obsession with trains and The Rolling Stones, chairing local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and his genuine love for his family, friends, and pets. He will be missed.
John was a devoted, loving husband of 46 years to Barbara (née Futamachi. He was the beloved father of son Brian (Fred) Neumann and daughter Jennifer Neumann, and doting "opa" to Hailey Neumann. He is also survived by his sisters Teri (Paul) Korbee and Eileen (the late Bob) Atkerson, brother Mark (Tammy) Neumann, and host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 15 from 2-3 and immediately followed by Celebration of Life at First Unitarian Church 536 Linton St, Cincinnati, Ohio. The service will be streamed for family and friends who are unable to attend in person. For those wishing to attend, please wear masks and practice social distancing.
