James Matthew "Matt" Hughes, 64, devoted husband and father, died Sunday, May 8th, 2022, with his family by his side in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Born April 1, 1958 to Don and Barbara Hughes in Chillicothe, Ohio. After graduating from Chillicothe High School he moved to Cincinnati, a place he would call home for the rest of his life. Matt graduated from the University of Cincinnati and was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi. He began his career in marketing before finding his true calling in non-profit and economic development. His passion for helping people and communities through fundraising consulting made an impact on many towns, people and generations to come. Most Saturdays you could find him on the course at Wyoming Golf Club surrounded by friends. He was a great golfer, an even better storyteller and the best husband, father and grandfather. A lover of people, good deeds and dogs. Matt is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Messer) Hughes; five children, Magen Gamble (Allan), Christian (Sarah), Emily Foster (Duncan), John and Elizabeth; two granddaughters, Mary Barnett and Molly Gamble; and sister, Amy Hughes Carlton (Joseph). He is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14th at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Finneytown at 9am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to University Hospital Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). www.springgrove.org
