James H. Johnsen (Jim) passed away peacefully on May 19, 2021, at age 79.
Jim was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but grew up in Altadena, California. As a young man, he attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University). There he met his lovely bride, Karolyn, in the Shrine of Ages Concert Choir. They married on May 25, 1963 and soon welcomed a son, Richard (Rick). After Jim graduated with an accounting degree, they moved to Anaheim, California for a job with Buzza Cardozo Greeting cards. While there they added two daughters, Heidi and Kirsten, to their family. In 1971, Buzza's parent company, Gibson Greetings, brought them to Cincinnati. In the following years, Jim rose to the office of Vice President/Treasurer of Gibson before retiring in 1994. He and Karolyn enjoyed many years singing together in choir at Forest Chapel UMC and in the May Festival Chorus.
Jim was the kindest, most generous man and will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 58 years, Karolyn L. Johnsen (nee Kline), son Rick (Kate) Johnsen, daughters Heidi (Andy) Powers, and Kirsten Johnsen. He is also survived by adoring grandchildren Becca Johnsen, Dylan Johnsen, Briana Rullmann, Conner Rullmann, Emma Rullmann, and Pvt, 1st class Seth Rullmann as well as brother Greg Johnsen and many dear friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Merilyn Johnsen (nee Gemmill), brother Doug Johnsen, and granddaughter Lydia Johnsen.
Jim left a true legacy of love.
