Jackie Raymond Jones, Sr., 90, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on September 14, 2021. Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2021, at Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Ave from 10-11 AM. Service will begin at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery .
Jackie was a man of many words, hobbies, and interests. He loved to tell stories. He was a gifted athlete. As a young man he played professional baseball. Later in life he took up tennis. Jackie retired from Emery Industries before moving to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was the tennis coach at William Carey College in Hattiesburg from 1987-1995, and he was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1993. Pool and archery were lifelong hobbies. He loved to travel with his wife, Ruby, and especially enjoyed fly fishing trips out West, visits with his tennis players in Switzerland, and an African Safari in Kenya. Jackie had a wonderful long life with his family and friends, and he did things his way right up to the end. Jackie was preceded in death by his son, Jackie; his parents, Clotilda and Charles Jones; and his brother, Charles. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruby; his daughter, Karen (Jan Worley) of Cincinnati; his son, Matthew (Laura) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; his five grandchildren: Michelle Gajus (Kyle), Marty, Ashley Rosen (Jared), Brittany, and Brett; and his great granddaughter, Chandler Gajus.
