Gene Fiber Tallman passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on September 22, 2021, on what would have been the 100th birthday of her late husband, Robert Tallman. Gene was born on February 5, 1928, in Middlebourne, West Virginia, the youngest of eight children of Ed and Jessie Fiber. She and Robert moved to Cincinnati in 1951 and spent most of their years together living in Evendale where they raised their three children.
First and foremost, Gene was a devoted Christian and long-time member of the Evendale Church of Christ, and her faith in God brought her great strength and comfort throughout her life. Gene had a passion for golf! She played in the women's golf league at Sharon Woods for more than 40 years and played another round every week with a trio of her golfing friends. One of her great joys was golfing with her daughter, Karen, and grandson, Scott, when they visited her. When Gene wasn't watching the Golf Channel, she loved to watch other sports and was a big fan of the Reds, the Bengals, the Buckeyes and the Mountaineers. She also loved March Madness, college bowls and many other sporting events.
Gene was known for her huge smile and her friendly, welcoming nature. She had a kind, generous heart and was well known for her prodigious production of homemade "Gene Tallman Baby Booties," which she started knitting before the birth of her oldest child, Brad, in 1952. She went on to knit booties for hundreds of babies over the next few decades, most recently for her great grandchildren. Her family brought the greatest joy to Gene's life as she deeply loved, and was deeply loved by, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren (to whom she was lovingly known as "Gramm"), and many nieces and nephews. Family gatherings at Gene's house were eagerly anticipated as she created and maintained many special traditions. Her family will never forget the smell of Gene's barbecue brisket and homemade pies that greeted them when they walked through her door.
Gene is survived by her son, Mark (Cheryl) Tallman; daughter, Karen Tallman; daughter-in-law, Nancy Tallman; grandchildren, Joel (Liz) Tallman, Andrea (John) Kullberg and Scott (Brooke) Tallman; great grandchildren, Jack Tallman, Vince Tallman, Lolani Kullberg, Elijah Kullberg and AJ Tallman; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Tallman; her oldest child, Robert Bradley Tallman; her parents, Ed and Jessie Fiber; and her seven older brothers and sisters (Paul Fiber, Ruth Lemasters, Gay Harrison, Nellie Spencer, Alex Fiber, Edward Fiber and Wayne Fiber).
To honor Gene's life, a visitation will be held on Monday, September 27th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Spring Grove Funeral Home, 10980 Reading Road, Sharonville, OH 45241. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at springgrove.org. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Freestore Foodbank.
