Culbertson, Elsie Irene went home to Jesus on May 19, 2021 at age 93.
Elsie was the oldest of seven children born to Charles and Lula Kurtz in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Her name was written in the Lambs Book of Life when she gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 12. As a student, Elsie excelled in sports and held Ohio state records in track & field. As a young adult, she took care of her nephew, Mike, with whom she continued to have a special bond.
Spending her adult life between South Florida and Cincinnati, Elsie's interests included golfing, fishing, bowling, her beloved Cincinnati Reds and spending quality with her family. For her 90th birthday, Fox Sports announcers gave her an on-air birthday shout-out during a Reds game. Elsie was devoted to her family and was a stranger to no one.
Elsie is survived by her children, Mary Lou (Paul) Gallaher, Paulette (Buddy) Bray, Susan (Richard) Hayes, and Stephen (Patricia) Culbertson; sister Evelyn Kurtz; numerous nephews, nieces, and family members. She was a loving grandmother to 17 grandchildren: Benjamin, Kimberly, Raymond, Ronald, Karen, Mark, Paula, Heather, Wally, Laura, Scott, Ariel, Amy, Stephen Michael, and Diana; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lula; siblings, Joseph, Jay, Robert, Mary Alice and Helen; son, Wallace Culbertson, Jr; and granddaughters Shelly and Leanne.
