On January 14, 2021, 5:13 a.m., Dorothy B. Echols Jones Rogers peacefully departed this life to her new home in heaven.

Dorothy Echols was born on May 29, 1930 to the late James and Leola Echols in Cincinnati, OH. She was the oldest girl of nine siblings. Dorothy attended Douglas High School in Walnut Hills.

Dorothy married William Vernon Jones, Sr. who preceded her in death. She was blessed with four children: David, Vivian, Vernon and Sherry. She worked as a Domestic worker numerous years in Cincinnati, OH; Atlanta, GA; and Columbia, SC until retiring at the age of 80. Dorothy was caring and loving to her family, a woman who met life with faith, courage, strength and a determination to fight. She loved to travel. Those who knew Dorothy will always remember her warm smile and lovely voice.

Dorothy accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and began her Christian walk at First Baptist Church of Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, OH. When Dorothy moved to Columbia, SC, she became an active member of Zion Baptist Church where she rendered service in the following capacities: Active Member of Arsenal Hill Club; and Active Member of the United Christian Women’s Auxiliary.

Dorothy was pre-deceased by her sons, David Allen Echols and William Vernon Jones, Jr. She was pre-deceased by siblings, Ronald Echols, Walter Echols, Margie McGuire, Rev. James Echols, Vernon Echols, and Florence Hawkins.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Vivian Chambers of Cincinnati, OH; and Sherry Jones of Aston, PA; three granddaughters, Tammi Chambers of Cincinnati, OH; Anndrea Jones of West Chester, PA; and Verna Bowman of Cincinnati, OH; six great-grandchildren: Shari Jones of West Chester, PA; Schyler Jones of West Chester, PA; Will David Ware of Cincinnati, OH; Kali, Coby, and Kelvin Bowman of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Barbara Fields of Cincinnati, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; Best Friend Bobbie Bonner of Cincinnati, OH; and others who were equally as special to her but too numerous to name.
