Obituary

Donald C. Vell, age 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away suddenly on March 18, 2023. Don was the son of the late Raymond and Goldie Vell.  

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Vell; children, Jeffrey (Julie) Vell, Michael (Janice) Vell and Catherine (Mark) Robertson; grandchildren, Ian (Terri) Roberston, Michael (Riley) Roberston, Jillian (Kevin Ferreira) Vell, Zachary (Katelyn) Robertson, Samantha Vell, and Wesley Robertson; granddog, Abby.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Mendel.  

Don was born in Concordia Kansas in 1933 and later moved to Council Grove Kansas with his family.  He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Dairy Manufacturing in 1955. He was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity, Dairy Club, and a member of the Dairy Product Judging Team. He was awarded a Dairy Industrial Research Fellowship to Ohio State University and graduated with a Master's Degree in 1956. While at Ohio State he met the love of his life Nancy and married her in 1956.

Don worked for the Kroger Company for 30 years in research and development for the dairy division, retiring in 1986.  After retiring from Kroger, he worked for Fantasy Flavors for ten years. Upon his retirement he fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of traveling to New Zealand and Australia with his wife.

In addition to his love for family and friends, Don's love for his church, White Oak Christian Church, and his faith grew over his 57 years as a member. During this time he served as a Deacon and an Elder of the church.

Don was a lifelong bowler and a member of the church bowling team for many years.  

Don kept busy during his retirement volunteering for 18 years at the Blue Rock Park maintaining the flower beds as well as a tutor and mentor for the Whiz Kids. He traveled to all 50 states and 4 continents and passed on his love of travel to his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM until the time of the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223.

Interment to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. www.springgrove.org
