Alice (Hamilton) Schwartz of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at home surrounded by her children.
Alice was born in Cincinnati, the daughter of Harley and Edna Hamilton.
She is survived by her three sons, James (Karen) Schwartz; Robert (Andrea) Schwartz; Steven (Qin) Schwartz; three grandsons, Ben, Max and Sam; and one granddaughter, Anna. She also is survived by sisters, Marian Gurney and June Hamilton; and brother Russell (Margie) Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tom Hamilton.
Alice encouraged her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren to thoughtfully pursue their passions. She was independent, resilient and known for her wry sense of humor. Alice truly treasured time with her grandchildren and loved to share their stories. Her refrigerator and home were a gallery of family photos and artwork from the grandkids.
She was adventurous and a nature lover. She looked forward to her annual hikes up Mount LeConte with close friends and in recent years traveled extensively in the US and to Central America, Northern Africa and China. She enjoyed gardening and liked tending to her flower beds and many plants. Alice loved dogs, especially her “grand” dogs who often came along when family visited her, and she also enjoyed dog sitting for friends after her beloved Jessie passed away.
Alice was loved by — and loved right back — her many kind and generous neighbors.
Her leukemia diagnosis and treatment did not stop her from doing what she loved and she remained vital and articulate until the end.
Alice was an avid bridge player and book reader. She belonged to several bridge clubs and book clubs. She volunteered often with a group of friends, providing meals at Tender Mercies Inc.
A private family service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tender Mercies Inc. https://www.tendermerciesinc.org/donate
