Flag Decommissioning Ceremony 2022

You are invited to our annual public ceremony to decommission retired, torn and worn flags at the Historic Civil War Section of Spring Grove where 1000 Civil War soldiers are interred.  Hundreds of Flags have been collected since Memorial Day weekend at the cemetery.  The public is invited to experience this moving ceremony on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m.  The ceremony will include a formal scout color guard, presentation of the colors, pledge of allegiance, the actual incineration of the flags, and will conclude with the lowering of the flag at dusk and Taps.  The ashes of the incinerated flags will be buried at the base of the cannon and flag pole in the Historic Civil War Section.  Ample parking is available and handicap parking will be provided.  The ceremony is expected to last 45 minutes.  There is no charge to be part of this event.  We are proud to share this ceremony with our community and we ask our guests to bring their own lawn chairs.  No reservations are necessary.
