REFLECTIONS: THE AMERICAN FUNERAL

What do a President's rider-less horse saddle, Rosa Park's quiet act of defiance,
and Abraham Lincoln's casket have in common? That's what the community will soon
discover from an exhibit featuring a collection of funeral objects and historical
depiction of funeral customs in a traveling museum at Spring Grove's funeral home,
the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, located on the grounds of Historic Spring Grove
  Cemetery and Arboretum.

Reflections: The American Funeral examines funeral traditions and their role in
helping the living achieve closure. Spread out across 1,000 sq. ft., thoughtful
display areas reveal how we mourn the dead. Of special note is the Lincoln exhibit,
featuring a reproduction of Lincoln's casket and tracing the near 3-week funeral procession.
Scholars cite Lincoln's 1865 funeral as the birth of today's modern funeral service.
Other moving exhibits include "Arlington National Cemetery," which honors our country's
veterans and the more than three million Americans buried in our national cemeteries.

The display artifacts, remarkable graphics and narrative, photography and video footage
all combine to tell a historical story on how we mourn and memorialize our loves ones.
It will be an enlightening experience all our visitors will remember for years. Every
visitor will walk away having learned something because Reflections commemorates people,
places and practices of historical significance. The exhibits honoring our country's veterans,
Presidents and fallen public safety officers are very moving."

"Gwen Mooney Funeral Home and The Spring Grove Family are honored to present Reflections and
the educational value that it delivers", says Gwen Mooney, Managing Director of Gwen Mooney
Funeral Home. "We believe that the stories shared of these notable Americans will illustrate
the importance of sharing our own stories with those we love and the members of the community
  we call home."

The museum is free, handicap-accessible and open to the public from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
