Walfred Andrew Mattson “Wally” was born in Manhattan, NY on June 1, 1927 to Alec and Eleanor Mattson. He passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020 at the age of 93.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Louise (nee Anderson), sister Eleanor Raynor, daughter Christina Thurman, granddaughter Angelica and one great granddaughter Marie.
He is survived by his three sons Andrew (Pamela) Mattson, Michael Mattson and Sven (Chuck) Mattson, six daughters Virginia "Ginelle" Woycke, Erica (Tom) Studer, Kerstin (Rick) Janzen, Jennifer Rycek, Julia (Walter) Hollingsworth, Patricia Mattson, beloved nephew, Walter Raynor and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wally was a loving family man, self-employed architect, political advocate and sports enthusiast (especially the Bearcats). He possessed a unique “joie de vivre” and shared his love of nature with all who came to know him.
He served in the military, then attended the University of Cincinnati for architecture where he met and married his wife. They had ten children who were all heavily influenced by his values and interests. He was a member of the Colerain Kiwanis, Southern Ohio Dog and Game Protective Association and Colerain Township Republican Club.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Spring Grove Funeral Homes, 4389 Spring Grove Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45223. Private services to follow visitation. Interment Spring Grove Cemetery. To view service click here.
