Obituary

Carolyn Kaufman (nee Henry) passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the age 77. She was born in Arabia, Kentucky and proceeded in death by her mother, Edna Henry. Carolyn was the beloved wife of the Bela Kaufman for 55 years. Dear mother of Kathleen (Christopher) Frey, Robert (Patricia) Kaufman and Andre Kaufman. Cherished grandmother of Gabriell, Christopher Mitchell, Lucille & Aiden Frey and Elena and Cody Kaufman. Doting Great Grandmother of Zella Rose Frey. Loving sister of Diane, Robert, Michael, Lou Ann, Terry, Keith and the late John and David Henry. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and relatives. Carolyn was born June 1, 1943 as the oldest of the 9 siblings. She graduated from Ludlow High School in the early 1960s. She made lots of friends and was involved in many clubs and organizations at her high school. She worked for Shillito’s in the early 1960’s, then she worked at the Colony Restaurant. As beautiful as she was, she caught the eye of Bela Kaufman. She married Bela in April of 1965. They had their first child Kathleen, followed by Robert, then Andre. Carolyn was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She thoroughly enjoyed being able to take wonderful care of her children and spending time with them. She made sure they always felt special and loved. Carolyn started working again in the mid-1980s at K-Mart, then she worked at Service Merchandise until she was hired at the Internal Revenue Service, where she worked for over 20 years before she retired. She loved her job and made many friends during her time working there. She always seemed to be making some type of food for a work party and had a lot of fun memories with her co-workers. She retired in 2017 and really missed working there afterwards. Her children grew up and eventually some were married and had children. Her first grandchild, born over five years prior to the rest of the grandchildren was Gabi (Gabriell). They shared a close bond spending many hours, shopping, cooking, sewing and other activities that they enjoyed together. The rest of the grandchildren were born years later. She had a special and unique bond with each of them (Mitch, Luci, AJ, Elena & Cody). She loved and talked about how proud she was of all of them. She was always extremely excited to be able to spend time with her 3-year old great granddaughter Zella. Carolyn will be remembered as someone who tried to take care of everyone. She always went the extra mile to make people feel special and loved. She deeply loved her family and did everything she could to take loving care of them. She always did the “little” things that meant so much. She was always on the sidelines, cheering for her family. Always waiting to help them or offer them what they needed. Carolyn will be deeply missed by her family and friends but kept alive in our memories of love for her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with services to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery Cedars of Lebanon Chapel, 4521 Spring Grove Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
