A loving, devoted, and committed mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, niece, and friend, Gloria Nelson-Turnbow departed this world November 28, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Born December 6, 1945 in Avondale, Cincinnati, Ohio, the special education teacher, author, and mentor was the only child of Edna E. Peoples who preceded her in death in 2012. Gloria was a precocious child who knew at a very early age that she wanted more out of life than the one she was born into, and was a firm believer that furthering her education was one way to accomplish her goals.
Gloria graduated from Our Lady of Angels High School in 1964, and she also received degrees from the University of Southern California at Santa Barbara, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and The Athenaeum of Ohio.
Gloria loved traveling the world and buying shoes and made it her business to do both.
A lifelong member of the former St. Andrews church, she made the transition and became a committed member of the Church of the Resurrection when St. Andrews closed its doors. Gloria had a close and personal relationship with God and she shared her faith with everyone she knew.
A retired Speech and Language Pathologist, Gloria taught in both the Hamilton County and Cincinnati Public School district and made a difference in the lives of the children she worked with in school and at church. Dedicated to serving her community, Gloria started and was involved in many programs designed to teach young people about serving God and helping others.
Gloria was extremely devoted to her family and leaves to cherish her memory and follow her legacy of love her children Gari, Erinn (Bo), Micah (Erin), Lisa, and D’Andre.
