Obituary

Nola Mae was born in Americus Georgia on August 4, 1916. She was 102 when she passed away on February 3, 2019 at Fountains Care Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. Nola’s parents were Marcellus Gibson and Osceola Frazier Gibson. Nola was the second of five children: Marcellus, Mildred, Ralph and Anna Louise. Nola Mae moved to Connecticut with her family at a young age. After the death of her father, they moved back to Georgia, then Florida and eventually took permanent residence in Cincinnati Ohio in 1928. She became a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in 1932.

Nola Mae married Matt M. Gibson Sr. in October 1937 and from that union they had five children. She is survived by Mildred, Matt Jr, Ralph (Robin) and Charles. Matt Sr. died on their 47th anniversary in 1989. Grandchildren include Mikal Gibson, Leigh Gibson, Indira Wilson (Joe), Sherice Watson and Matt Gibson IV, along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Nola is also survived by her sister Anna Louise Payne (Frank) and nephew Glen Childress.

Predeceased family include Matt M. Gibson Sr. (Husband), Toni Gibson (Daughter), Marcellus Gibson (Brother), Mildred Gibson Wynn (Sister) and Ralph Gibson (Brother).

Nola was loved by all who knew her and touched many lives with her smile, wisdom and unconditional love. She will truly be missed.

Visitation will be held Saturday February 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at Zion Baptist Church, 630 Glenwood Ave. Cincinnati, OH. 45229, until the time of the service at 11:00 at the church. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
