Obituary

Gwendolyn Jean Jordan-Ellerbee was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Affectionally called “Bear” by family and close friends, she was an absolute amazing mom, sister and friend.

Gwen’s story begins on March 23, 1957, born to Theodore Proctor and Clora T. Jordan; and the youngest of three siblings. Gwen was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where she spent her childhood, singing, dancing and mastering theatre. She graduated from Woodward High School in 1976 and attended Wright State University where she studied theatre. In 1982, a couple of years after her daughter Akita was born she relocated to the Dayton, Ohio area and begin working towards her career goals. Gwen worked for the United States Postal Service for several years, Jergensun Construction for 17 years and later General Motors now DMax for 22 years. She was a world traveler, enjoyed cooking delicious meals, an avid lottery player, and you could catch her in Macy’s, Elder-Beerman or Dillard’s shopping most times. Gwen was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio and long time member of the Local Union IUE-CWA 755. She was a giver of her heart, time and energy to several individuals and touched the lives of many. Gwen was strong, feisty and humorous; she could give you this look that made you know exactly how she felt. We will all miss her so very much.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Gwen are her father Theodore Proctor, mother Clora T. Jordan, brothers Donald and Ronald Knighten, and husband Kevin Ellerbee. Loved ones that will miss Gwen until they meet again are her daughter Akita Jordan-Hein; step-daughter Courtney Ellerbee; granddaughter Charlie Ellerbee; sister Annette Knighten, brother Lemar Knighten and several nieces, nephews, and host of family and friends.

    Relationship: Cousin

So sad to hear the passing of my cousin. I was in total shock and disbelief but I know our heavenly father makes no mistakes, Akita I know how close you and your mother were and my heart aches for you, but I will keep you in my prayers at all times. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to get through but as time goes on it gets a LITTLE better day by day hour buy hour. I love You
