Obituary

In Loving Memory

Elizabeth(Libby) Ezzard Cunningham, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2018, at Brookdale Kenwood retirement home in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Libby resided in Dayton, Ohio for 68 years, before relocating to Cincinnati in 2012.

Libby was born in Winter Garden, Florida on November 9, 1920 to John Thomas Ezzard Sr and Ollie Jane Vick Ezzard.  John was a lawyer turned citrus farmer and Ollie was a schoolteacher.  She was the youngest of 5 children; her 4 older brothers, John T Jr, Charles Woodfin ("Woody"), George, and Richard, all predeceased her.

She grew up in the Winter Garden area among the orange groves, and graduated from Orlando Senior High School in 1938.  She attended Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) in Tallahassee.  Libby was very active in athletics, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and as president of the Varsity Club.  She graduated from FSCW in June 1942 with a degree in Home Economics and worked as a dietician at the Jacksonville, Florida hospital, the Columbia Hospital in Manhattan, and the Monte Fiore Hospital in the Bronx.  Florida was always in her heart, her dreams, and in her travels until the day she passed on.

In 1942 Libby met Lee, her future husband, in Winter Garden, Florida, and married on October 7, 1944 at the First Methodist Church of Winter Garden. After the wedding Libby joined Lee in Dayton, Ohio, where Lee enjoyed a 34-year career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. They were married 52 years until Lee’s passing in 1996.

It was in Dayton that Libby and Lee's three children were born.  Libby and Lee were both charter members of the Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering Ohio.  They were both very active as members of Couplets, and Libby sang in the church choir and served on many church committees.

In the mid 1960's Libby attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio receiving her Masters Degree in Education.  She taught French to 5th and 6th graders at both Smith Elementary School and Harmon Elementary School in Oakwood, Ohio. She transitioned to 3rd grade at Smith until she retired in the 1980's.

After retirement Libby and Lee traveled to visit their children, friends, and relatives throughout the country.  They wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, enjoying the warm weather, walking on the beach, playing bridge, and visiting relatives and friends.

Libby's love of adventure saw her traveling to Alaska in a van with her niece and husband along with her many trips to Europe.  She loved to tell stories about all of her adventures.

By the time Libby was 84 years old, she had started doing some modeling and soon her pictures were seen in magazines, newspapers, TV, and even on billboards throughout the USA and Europe.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Kent Cunningham (Susan) of Indian Hill, Ohio; daughters Janis Voth (Shaun) of Chandler, Arizona and Lisa Young (Norm) of Cave Creek, Arizona; two granddaughters, Audrey Sawyer (Jesse) of Clyde, North Carolina, and Lacey Cunningham of Malibu, California.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, with inurnment at David's Mausoleum in Kettering, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Christ United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429, or https://www.shelbygiving.com/g3/h/

Libby lived life with zest, laughter, love, and adventure. May she Rest in Peace.

Dear Cunningham Family, we are saddened by the loss of your loved one and no matter how long we have had our loved one with us, it's never long enough. We look forward to the time when a persons age will be replaced with "living forever" on Paradise earth. We are so thankful to our loving Heavenly Father who has promised to heal our hearts and remove all the pain that sickness and death has caused, by means of the resurrection. (John 5:28, 29 Psalm 37:11, 29 Rev. 21:4) Please accept our sincere condolences, Dianne.
