Rev Thomas Duane York Pastor Emeritus, our beloved Tom, has received an unexpected promotion – to pastor in Paradise. He passed away peacefully in Cincinnati, OH.
Tom grew up in Cincinnati, where his father Rev Clyde York and mother Ruth pastored at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian, but his happiest moments dawned every summer in Fish Creek, WI, where Tom, his brother Tim, and sisters Barb and Kathy loved boating in the TimTom, waterskiing, and singing around campfires.
While studying at Princeton Seminary, Tom married his wonderful wife Barbara Backer. Together they served Wausau Presbyterian in Wausau, WI, Broad Street Presbyterian in Columbus, OH and Knox Presbyterian in Cincinnati. When he retired, Knox created the Tom York Lecture Series in his honor.
Barbara Backer York lost her battle with ALS in 2011, but Tom is survived by his son David of Cincinnati, OH; siblings Rev Barbara L Streng (William) of Eagle River, WI; Kathleen A Pelletier (Charlie) of Fish Creek, WI; Timothy R York (Jan) of Chilton, WI; six nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews; beloved cousins and Uncle Mark; sweetheart Shelley Bamberger and her daughter Erin Bailey (Kailin); colleagues and congregations.
Farewell, Tom. We will miss you forever.
