William Thomas III (Tom), born September 27, 1941, Cincinnati, Ohio to the late William and Lucenda Amanda (Jeffries) Thomas. He was the eldest of two children and is preceded in death by his sister Nola Welch.
Tom grew up in the West End of Cincinnati, through Junior High School. The family moved to Evanston where he graduated from Withrow High School. He was in the U.S. Naval Reserve in high school (1958 – 1959), following graduation he transferred to active duty proudly serving on the USS Independence (Forester Ship) CVA. After 2 years of service, Tom was honorably discharged (1960 – 1962) continuing into the reserves where he served an extra 2 years of honorable service. After his military service, he attended the University of Cincinnati, under the G.I. Bill, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology.
His degree led him into law enforcement as a Probation Officer for Hamilton County Justice System; he later left the Probation Office to begin his 28-year career with the Chrysler Corporation as a District Sales/Service Manager, retiring in 2003. Following retirement, Tom started his beloved lawn grooming business, which our son “endearingly” said was his dad’s “hobby” versus “business.”
Tom became a disciple of Christ, with the Gateway Church of Christ, now the Cincinnati Church of Christ in 1987. He married Brenda (McKinney – Williams) on August 7, 1988. He loved Sunday school classes, ICOC Conferences (especially regional ones), Bible talks and PrimeTime. He loved family and family gatherings, all types of music, his favorite being jazz. He played Vibes as part as a Jazz band in high school, playing most of his life. Tom loved to travel, motorcycles and trains. He was known for his “gift of gab”, and was able to contribute to almost any topic…… Tom never met a stranger
Tom was a faithful disciple, devoted husband, father, grandfather (Papa) until his death October 1, 2017. He was a father to one son William Thomas IV and Step-Children Deshawn Williams, Alfred Williams and Papa to 7 grandchildren.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory, wife Brenda, son William step-children DeShawn Williams (Thaddeus), Alfred Williams (Angela). Seven grandchildren, Dajia, Tra’, Miles, Angeles, Abraham, Aeryel and Aeryk and one great-granddaughter Alexandrya Rowan. Niece Melissa Campbell (Jeff and children Olivia, Joshua, Matthew ) of Arizona, Two nephews Brian Welch (Cassandra) of Washington D.C., and Jason Welch (Tikila, daughter Kennisyn) of Indianapolis, cousin Butch Ward (children Alfred M. Ward J.r, Sirlaney R. Ward) of Atlanta; as well as a host of other family, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
