Mary Louise Krehbiel passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 23, 2017. She was born July 14, 1923 in Cincinnati to Emily (nee Hader) and Herbert Hackstedde. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her love of 67 years. She was the loving mother of Rob (Jan), John (Leslie), Emily (Donald) Lewis, Dick (Anne), and Steve (Trish). Beloved grandmother of Amy Thompson, Matt (Amy) Krehbiel, Sara Krehbiel, Mary (Jon) Rausch, John (Jenny) Krehbiel, David (Laura) Krehbiel, Rohan and Paul Krehbiel, Steve, Edwin (Anne), Rip, and Mazie Krehbiel. Devoted great-grandmother to Kaylee Thompson, Ellie and Nathan Rausch, Grace Krehbiel, and Davis and Margot Krehbiel. She was the cherished sister of Paul Hackstedde. She graduated from Miss Doherty’s School and received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Smith College. After college, she worked as a secretary to Dr. Albert Sabin as he developed the polio vaccine. She joined Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park in 1947 and was an active member for over 70 years where she served as a Deacon, Elder, and long time participant in a Bible Study Group. Mary Louise was Vice President and Board member of the Cincinnati Woman’s Club and a longtime member of the Cincinnati Country Club, the University Club, the Indian Hill Swim Club, and the Biltmore Forest Country Club. She worked as a volunteer at the Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services. Mary Louise also served on the board of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati and a founding member of the Indian Hill Historical Society. She worked on the Indian Hill School PTA. Her hobbies included gardening, bridge, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, and watching the Cincinnati Reds. She was a willing co-pilot to her husband with his various hobbies of flying, diving, hiking, swimming and skiing. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28th from 9:30 to 10:20 AM at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3400 Michigan Avenue 45208, with funeral service immediately following at 10:30 AM. Memorials, if so desired, may be directed to Knox Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
