She made full- or king-size quilts as wedding presents for family and friends. Her manufacturing work started as a “Rosie the riveter” during World War II at Wright’s in Evendale. In 1946, she purchased a small farm in Casey County, to which her family moved when her husband was discharged from the Navy. She returned to working on aircraft engines in 1951 when the family moved back to Ohio. She was a member of the Generalettes. In the 1950s she received a leadership award from the Hamilton County Agriculture Extension Office as leader of the first urban 4-H Club in Hamilton County. She played team volleyball at GE before retirement and recreational volleyball into her late 70s. She mowed her own grass into her 80s. Her four children, who survive, are Jo-Ann (Henry “Buy”) Albers of West Chester Township; Joyce Allen of Plano, Texas; Susan (William) Worley, of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Paul Henry (Dorothy) Huff of Sycamore Township. She is survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Thelma Brown Luttrell of Mason and Betty R. Thomas of Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Brown Garrett and Anna Brown Osterkamp; and two brothers, George “Junior” and Loyal R. Brown. I am so sorry to hear about the passing on Olowene. Elaine and I will keep your entire family in our prayers during this time of grief. I have such fond memories of my Aunt. She was always present with a positive word, a big smile and a fun loving laugh. My Aunt was so devoted and proud to her family. I always enjoyed hearing her talk about each of you and seeing her smile. Oli was such a devoted Christian. What a great role model she was for everyone she met. She had a significant impact on my life and based on seeing how she lived her life. Kind, loving, thoughtful, caring for everyone she met. Lastly, I always loved talking to her about the Big Red Machine. She was such a Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. She always knew far more than I did about each of the players and how they were doing. Again, I offer my deepest regrets for your loss but I celebrate my Aunt Olowene's life.
