Corey Deshawn “Shawnie Baby” Hartley, born to Charles and Minnie Hartley on June 16, 1970, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends on April 19, 2017.
Corey blessed his parents with being the happiest baby around. His loving personality always allowed him to build relationships with his teachers and classmates from St. Joseph, St. Pius, North Fairmount, Gamble and West High. He played the Trombone in the High School Band, and was part of the Mustang’s Football Team where he established friendships that still exist today. He grew up in the Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church under Bishop Jasper J. Phillips, singing in the children’s choir, and became part of the camera crew taping the weekly broadcasts. He’s very much loved by the Zion Temple Family, members always inquired about. Corey’s Career began at Hardee’s as a teenager, moved to American Red Cross, Landing him with his Larosa’s Family in 1991 until he passed. He achieved the Legendary Service Award by taking care of a blind customer after the store closed their dining room, by creating him his own personal dining room for his meal….showing his heart of gold.
In July 1989, Corey Hartley and Lisa North gave birth to his daughter Lynnice “Nina Pooh” North. On February 13, 2004 Corey met Betty Dameron who later became his wife on September 10, 2011. His wife drove him nuts planting flowers, cleaning out their 15 flower beds, raking leaves, whenever she had a chance to make the yard beautiful. Corey was an individual who was filled with many jokes, loud laughs, welcoming spirit, and wonderful personality. Always knowing Corey’s bark was louder than his bite, he may have been the loudest around but he was also the most gentle. He was always soft spoken and respectful to all of his elders including his parents…softly calling out “MA”. He was the fondest doggie dad to his precious Ruby, Max, and Lily. Growing up as the oldest brother, he was always pestering his sibling as well as being there whenever they needed him. He always made it a point to travel around see all of his family and friends, making sure everyone was good.
