We would like you to meet ‘King Otis the First’.  Born on December 6, 2007, Otis was hand chosen by Gwen Mooney from a local breeder to be the Grief Therapy Dog for Spring Grove’s funeral home, the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home.  Otis is a Yellow Labrador Retriever with a Certified Pedigree with the American Kennel Club.

Finding comfort in their time of mourning, families can turn to Otis to express their grief.    Knowing that so many people have a strong connection to animals, Otis will be dedicated to helping families who have suffered a loss.  If desired by the family, Otis will sit for arrangements, visitations, and funerals.  Otis makes regular appearances to groups that tour our funeral home and will make special visits to homes, nursing homes and schools. Otis has many months of training ahead of him, attending several specialized classes on his path to become a certified service dog and a Certified Therapy Dog of Greater Cincinnati.    Otis lives with Gwen and her family in Harrison, OH.  Otis comes to work with Gwen each day.  “He is an employee of our funeral home working for hugs, kisses and the occasional treat,” says Gwen.
