Weekend Walkabout / August

Since its founding 150 years ago, Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum has been an important part of Cincinnati's heritage. It serves as a guardian of much of Cincinnati's past. In 1995, the Board of Trustees established the Spring Grove Heritage Foundation to educate the public about and promote the natural beauty and historic integrity of Spring Grove in ways not normally covered by the cemetery's operations. Through the sponsorship of events, tours, workshops and seminars, the Foundation serves to promote Spring Grove's cultural, historic, and natural resources. Often referred to as a "museum without walls," Spring Grove possesses fine art and architecture of eclectic styles as diverse as any collection.  Your $4 or $5 donation goes to the Spring Grove Heritage Foundation.

August 6th / 10:00AM

TOPIC:  Abolitionists

Abolitionists were people who sought to end the institution of slavery in the United States. They had a range of views on how to accomplish this goal, and Cincinnati was a city at the heart of the discussions. We will visit the monuments of several prominent Abolitionists and Anti-slavery supporters, and learn about the men and women of our area who were dedicated to Abolition. The group includes Conductors on the Underground Railroad, writers, lawyers and judges, publishers, politicians, generals, and journalists. This tour begins and ends at the Historic Office. Length of the tour is about 1 hour 15min to 1hr 30 min, and includes on and off road walking, about a mile in length.

Registration is required.  Group size is limited.  Registration will open on Friday, July 8, 2016 at NOON.
